ResilienX at Disaster Expo Miami: What We Heard, and Why ORION-X Matters

What We Learned at Disaster Expo Miami: The Case for Shared Drone Infrastructure
Two days of conversations reinforced a clear takeaway: emergency response teams want the benefits of coordinated drone operations, without the overhead of building isolated programs from scratch.

“We kept hearing the same thing, teams want drone capability, but they don’t want to build the program from scratch for every agency. ORION-X is designed to make coordinated drone operations shareable, scalable, and practical, with autonomy up front and compliant oversight built in.”
— Andrew Carter, CEO, ResilienX

What we learned at the show

Disaster Expo Miami gave the ResilienX team something more valuable than a typical booth metric. It gave us repeated, practical insights from the people closest to real-world response operations.

The pattern we heard again and again was simple:

  • Agencies and response teams have urgent use cases for drones, especially when time, access, and situational awareness matter.
  • But many teams feel they have to build a full drone program in-house, including equipment, staffing, training, and operational discipline.
  • What’s emerging is demand for a shared infrastructure model where drone capability can be coordinated across teams and jurisdictions, instead of duplicated in silos.

One conversation captured it perfectly. A stakeholder described the effort to coordinate a shared fleet across multiple municipalities, then saw our ORION-X workflow and immediately recognized a better path: the same outcome, with less operational overhead.

Why this matters now

The show also made something tactical clear: interest was heavily regional. We heard strong momentum from South Florida and additional energy from other metro areas across the state.

The opportunity is real, but so is the gap: demand doesn’t automatically become deployments unless there’s a practical operating model behind it.

ORION-X: autonomy first, oversight always

We demonstrated ORION-X and its straightforward approach: make coordinated drone operations feel easy on the front end, and reliable on the back end.

In practice, the workflow looks like this:

  • A requester submits a mission request
  • ORION-X automatically plans, schedules, and routes the mission around constraints
  • Ops monitors execution for compliant, reliable operations and can intervene if needed
  • Mission outputs are delivered automatically to the requester, including photos and video, attached to the mission record

Use Case Snapshots: the needs we heard, and how ORION-X fits

Below are short, practical use cases inspired by show conversations, plus a few representative scenarios that ResilienX sees as immediate fits for ORION-X deployments.

Use Case Example 01: Multi-municipality storm impact assessment (shared coverage)

Situation: After severe weather, multiple municipalities need rapid visual assessment across a wide area… without pulling field crews off higher-priority tasks.

How ORION-X helps:

  • Requests come in from different jurisdictions using a consistent workflow
  • ORION-X schedules missions across a dock network and prioritizes coverage
  • Ops monitors the operation while deliverables are automatically returned to each requester

Outcome: Faster situational awareness, fewer duplicated flights, and a shared operating model that scales.

Use Case Example 02: Search and rescue support with infrared (last known area)

Situation: A missing-person search expands quickly and teams need rapid scanning of large areas, especially at night or in low visibility.

How ORION-X helps:

  • Mission is requested with location and search intent
  • ORION-X routes and executes a defined pattern while the requester can switch views (including IR) during live observation
  • Media and mission summary are automatically delivered for coordination and handoff

Outcome: Faster coverage of search zones, clearer coordination, and a documented mission record.

Use Case Example 03: Critical infrastructure incident response (port, utility, corridor)

Situation: A disruption occurs near critical infrastructure where access is limited, risk is high, and teams need immediate visual confirmation before deploying personnel.

How ORION-X helps:

  • Rapid mission request with precise location and capture requirements
  • ORION-X plans and routes to maintain compliance with constraints
  • Live view supports real-time decision-making, while outputs are automatically delivered for reporting and follow-up

Outcome: Improved safety posture and faster, evidence-backed decisions.

Use Case Example 04: Active incident perimeter monitoring (situational updates)

Situation: During an active incident, incident commanders need periodic perimeter checks, changing viewpoints, and unified situational awareness

How ORION-X helps:

  • Missions can be requested as needed and executed consistently
  • Alert-driven constraints can trigger automated rerouting when conditions change
  • Outputs and mission summaries are automatically returned to the requester and retained for continuity

Outcome: Repeatable updates, reduced operational friction, and better continuity amongst teams.

Use Case Example 05: Planned event readiness (pre-staging and rehearsal)

Situation: Before a major event, agencies want to validate coverage areas, establish repeatable flight patterns, and rehearse response workflows.

How ORION-X helps:

  • ORION-X plans and schedules missions ahead of time
  • Ops monitors execution during rehearsal flights
  • Mission outputs build a baseline and help teams train on an operationally realistic workflow

Outcome: Better preparedness with less last-minute improvisation.

What we’re doing next

We’re taking the most common use cases we heard at the show and turning them into short, practical “projected case study” packages, each with a workflow, expected outputs, and deployment considerations.

If you have a scenario in mind, we’d like to hear it.
