NUAIR® Receives Civil Flight Authority for 240 Square Miles Beyond Visual Line of Sight Operations

Yahoo Finance shared an update on a major milestone for the New York UAS corridor: NUAIR has received FAA civil flight authority via a Part 107 waiver that enables remote, autonomous Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations across a 240 square mile operating area in Upstate New York.

This matters because “civil flight authority” moves BVLOS from limited demonstrations toward repeatable, compensated operations. In other words, it helps turn the corridor into real operating infrastructure that industry and government teams can use to test, validate, and scale practical use cases, not just prove what is possible once.

The announcement also highlights NUAIR’s Center of Excellence at Syracuse Hancock International Airport and the broader ecosystem required to make routine operations real, including alliance partners like ResilienX and others supporting weather, airspace, and operational integration.
