BATTLE CREEK, MICH. – Battle Creek Unlimited (BCU) is pleased to announce that it has selected ResilienX, Inc. to develop the ground-based sense and avoid system for MICH-AIR, the advanced air mobility hub under development at the Battle Creek Executive Airport (BTL). This system will enable remote and autonomous aircraft to operate in Battle Creek and beyond.
At its core, this effort is about building the infrastructure layer that makes BVLOS practical at scale. The system will bring together cooperative and non-cooperative surveillance, digital airspace services, and aviation-grade safety assurance into an integrated operating environment, designed to support real-world missions and multiple stakeholders, not one-off demonstrations.
BCU has been laying the groundwork to make Battle Creek a hub for advanced aerial operations, supported by unique regional assets. These include a Class D general aviation airport with acreage available for development, Western Michigan University’s College of Aviation based at BTL, and the Michigan Air National Guard’s 110th Wing and its remote drone operations center, along with nearby industrial capacity through Fort Custer Industrial Park.
BCU and ResilienX expect the system to be operational within 12 months, progressing through installation, regulatory approvals, and operational demonstrations.
BCU leadership has emphasized that this initiative is about sustainable, repeatable infrastructure that supports safe, confident operations over time. From our perspective, it’s also an example of how regions can approach BVLOS and advanced air mobility with standards-aligned, scalable models that can expand as demand grows.
